Theoretical Physics, Fluid Mechanics and Meterorology

No horizon just a pretty sunrise

Can you see the pronounced curve of the earth in the shots below?
I think the curve is tighter

What do you think?

I've added the building on the right to provide a frame of reference.

We forgot to put our motos inside our hotel parking lot in the town of Tecka. Around 9PM the helpful and friendly policeman we'd met earlier knocked on our doors and suggested we move them inside. These touring bikes are like Rolls Royces down in South America, too tempting.

I was pleased to drive through 150 miles of landscape covered speckled with a thousand working oil pumps. I like these people and they deserve a little wealth in the neighborhood .

Tecka to Comodoro Rivadavia – 350 miles

Patagonia is known for many things – Remoteness, mountains, lakes, penguins, sheep and WIND. The wind blows year round. It subsides at night but begins again after the sun comes up. Since I’m riding a motorcycle all day that the invisible wind tries to blow off the road I’ve had time to ponder why the wind is so forceful down here. Here’s my half-baked theory:
Because we are approaching the Earth’s axis the diameter of a cross section here is much shorter than one at the equator. Thus as the earth turns its effect on the wind is proportionally greater. The reason for the diminution of the wind after sundown is a direct consequence of the cooling of the atmosphere’s molecules. Less energy in each molecule slows them making it less likely they’ll rush to equalize pressure differences locally. They sort of rest at night as we all do.
[An observation: When looking at the horizon down here I'm pretty sure I can see a dramatic difference in the curve of the earth. It appears to be more pronounced. If true wouldn't it have been marvelous if all of the flat earth religous zealots had been able to see the obvious roundness of the planet. See my photo of the horizon down here and see what you think].

The wind direction is not hard to predict if there are any trees in the landscape. If there are any hardy enough to withstand the prevailing there are not withstanding them vertically. You’ll see them all leaning as much as 50 degrees, permanently sculpted by the unseen force of nature.
Farms here are called Estancias. The homes are never built on the flat plain. They are either nestled against a hill side or built in a depression in the land. Those in depressions call barely be seen. What you do see are the tall trees each farmer plants all around his home as a further windbreak.

Sorry, looks flat to me. The naked eye can see so much more than the camera.
