Mesa Verde to Mexican Hat- 210 miles

Wow! How can things go from sublime beauty to maggot filled pus pockets so quickly?

Leaving Mesa Verde this morning I indicated errors on the trip sheet to our organizer. He said don't worry just 'carry on'. It got hot quickly. By the time we realized we were lost and riding in lengthy loops, in 110 degree desert heat with helmets on, I was angry. Mac had insisted 40 miles ago that we should go right. We did, but should have gone left. Dehydration and heat stroke were imminent. I left Mac to try my own route. I retraced our tracks and found the hotel. It's a crappy little box in a hellishly hot brick oven of a place. The town of Mexican Hat, AZ was created to lure tourists. Its drawing card is a piss poor rock formation belched up in a spurt of smegma (magma, I know) 35 million years go that looks a little like an upside-down sombrero. How in bloodly hell did it become our destination? Hopefully everything will look brighter in the morning. We need to negotiate 225 more miles of desert to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. I've been there before. It is noticably more interesting than Mexican Hat
