Looking down from on highPopayan to Ecuador border – 200 miles
Border to Otavalo – 90 miles.
Our bug-eyed gutless wonder of a leader put us in a hotel 200 miles from the border. He wanted to arrive at the border at noon. He has previously housed us in some pretty funky dumps just to be within 20 miles of a border. I guess it wasn’t convenient for him this time. We got there after 2pm. He got himself and his drinking buddies through customs by three and left his wife Julia to take care of everyone else. Mac, Julia, Young Andy and me got on the road at 6:30. We spent 4 hours riding in the dark on mountain roads full of dogs, trucks and basketball sized fallen rock. Globebusters own literature says not to ride in Central or South America at night. I’ve made up my mind. I’ll not ride at night again because of Kevin’s incompetence or his disregard for the safety of the group’s members. I'm pissed.
